I’m late to your blog, Jeremy and was reading the ‘least favorite’ for 2021 and came across this great edition. Interesting sidebar, I invited Senator Lee as my guest to Pinehurst #2 with Winston-Salem Police Chief Sweat (who later became first Sec of Juvenile Justice for state in 2000) in mid 1990s. As we shared a meal afterwards, Senator Lee reflects that he had never played #2 though he had grown up in the region. It was a quite a memorable day for me to walk those fairways with this leader.
I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Lee as a young man out of grad school, and Mr. Hallsey on several occasions at parks related functions.
Fascinating story! Thanks for sharing. I have hiked portions of the MST.
