Hey everyone! We’re in the midst of a fairly substantial winter storm, so I figured now might be the time just to shoot the bull about… whatever. Feel free to talk about what’s happening up where you live … or bring up anything you want down in the comments. It’s a snow day, so let’s hang out!
I keep baking things BECAUSE THE POWER'S GONNA GO OUT ANY MINUTE! Pumpkin pie yesterday, cornbread first thing this morning to go with the soup I'm gonna have to heat up on the wood stove.....looking at some Sweet Potato Muffin mix next from Old Mill of Guilford....
Chapel Hill is I C Y. I feel like if the plows don't hit the alley next to my apartment, it'll make for a pretty great sledding ramp tomorrow. Some of the images I'm seeing from Boone remind of that wicked snowstorm we had right before finals back in December 2018. I think we got like a foot of snow or something? It was pretty great.
I dragged out our generator and got it all set up to go yesterday. Guaranteed the power will stay on now! But Belmont has about 3" or snow and another 3 of sleet on top right now, and it's still a-comin' down!
Took a little trip to Blowing Rock, thought we’d be able to stay longer if the weather ended up being as bad as predicted (you know how it’s hit or miss in NC). Turns out the property we stayed at didn’t have availability for an extra night. Down unplowed 321 we go without 4x4. Jeeeeeezus this is a terrible idea.
The windy.com snowfall predictions are wild. I think they are just looking at the precipitation coming out of the cloud + the temperature, and if you've got below freezing temps, it assumes all the rain turns into snow. It was consistently predicting 6 in snow for south Charlotte. It's also predicting another big snowstorm next Saturday. 7 inches of snow in Kinston! 14 inches in Raleigh! It's the end times.
What’s everyone listening to today? We’ve got Bachman-Turner Overdrive on the turntable because we’re listening to all of our records in alphabetical order. We sorta peaked early with the Allman Brothers.
Started doing this when I retired a few years ago. Up to Paul McCartney. Perhaps you have a few albums by The Band coming up that might be better than BTO?
Had the toboggan discussion a few times in my life. As long as I'm below the Mason-Dixon I reserve the right to say toboggan but concede stocking cap when visiting in-laws up north.
After 25 years of NYC / Manhattan snow storms, this is just right. Enough to feel like winter. Gone by mid-week. A perfect day to make soup and take pics of Uptown / South End CLT. (granted, not so perfect for those that lose power)
As a Latino from a country with a caribbean coast (Venezuela) living in the southern U.S. for the past 20+ years, I still get the same feeling the first time I saw snow!
Made the muffins. Added some walnuts, pushed some chocolate chips down into them at the end, thinking about an orange glaze, then they'll be cupcakes!
Need updated yard pic to compare your coverage to ours here in Belmont...usually G'boro beats us, but we may have you today! ;-)
Hey Jeremy, what's the little widget next to my (and your) avatar?
I'm... not sure.

I did that yesterday too!

Y’all remember the great ice storm of December 2002? No power for a week. Went to a hotel to have heat and water for a shower.

That… may be incorrect!

Modern Moxie.
Watched hours of airplanes taking off and landing at London Heathrow on Big Jet TV's YouTube channel...a must-see for avgeeks!
Kid Rock

We do not have The Band, but we did just put on Bad Company, so things are looking up.
Ah sleet sleet sleet sleet sleet!
Toboggan or beanie?
I say TOE-boggan because that's what my coworker says and I find it funny. Usually I just say hat.
I still say stocking cap (and pop instead of soda).
Knit cap and Coke.
Toboggan and Coke. Call beer a cold drink.

Watch cap. Coke. Pop is a type of music. Beer is … beer.

Best snack during a snowstorm?
https://www.ourstate.com/snow-cream/
Thanks! About to run out of maple syrup, our standard.
Fresh Baked Choc Chip Cookies and Hot Chocolate!

What brought you here?
What brough me to the U.S.: Looking for a better life after the 1992 coup d'etat in Venezuela.
What brought me to Charlotte: Work.
I moved to Charlotte from Chicago for this? Boy, did I get duped!
What are your feelings on Matt's Chicago Dog, though?
Should I go for a run in this? Feel like it’s a good bad decision.

You do you, man. I'm sure you'll strengthen some new muscles when you brace yourself against busting your ass with every step.
