A photographer snapped a shot of Shaunda Shane skating down her street in Fayetteville when she was 10. How did the world's most famous skateboarder see that picture 45 years later?
As a skateboard historian, I cannot express how grateful I am to librarians, journalists, and others that unearth these unknown stories. Fantastic way to help balance my Election Day anxieties.
Oh I VERY much appreciate the heads up! I just make typos with such regularity that I feel like I should offer some sort of reward to the people who find them.
That’s awesome for her! I’m 51 and skated from age 12 until I was 28! I’m amazed to see that Tony can still shred with the best of them at his age! I tried to teach my kids, but technology won! I had his classic board and Per Weilanders! I was one of four kids that skated at that time in my hometown of Bear Creek NC! I still kick my kids unused boards up and down my dead end street sometimes, but no more tricks for me!
Great story...Im an old skatepark team stateboarder...I would like to Tell Tony about the time I sang the National Anthem at a skateboard event...I always felt people didnt quite appreciate or understand...the true athleticism of the sport of Skateboarding...Balance..coordination..and how she is displaying " laid back since way back" sidewalk surfing...
This is such a heart-warming story... what was needed right now! And totally came here to see if Tony Hawk has seen the story and looking for that recreation pic. Thank you!!

Great story
No politics
Goofy footed means you ride with your right foot forward! All you have to do is look at the picture in the article...
Gahhhhhhh in my haste I messed this up. I mean, the evidence was RIGHT THERE!
Since she is left handed, this is not goofy footed.
Great story and reporting!
There’s a typo in the block quote — to should be too.
Agh! You win the typo bounty.
Lol, not trying to gotcha, it's just that when I have typos in my posts, I appreciate when readers let me know so that I can fix them.

We need Shaunda to hook up with @oldladyskater get fully padded up and regain that freedom feeling of bygone years (work schedule willing).
