I’m a NC native, but have lived in England since 2002 …. I just picked up a dozen Krispy Kremes from the grocery store four minutes down the road. It’s definitely global, but nevertheless a taste of ‘home’!
Nice article. In case the newish CEO reads this… a good stunt to pull would be to have your stores, at least in NC, actually have the Hot Doughnuts Now sign on somewhat frequently like they use to. Catching a freshly made, hot glazed is about as rare as an honest politician these days and this has certainly limited my efforts to get to Krispy Kreme. It sucks to drive across town to get a cold, not fresh doughnut. I can get that anytime at Harris Teeter. Oh, and the cheerful folks behind the counter have disappeared too. Not many friendly greetings at Krispy Kreme anymore.
02/21/25: How true. I thought it wise for NCRH to ignore the issue. As for "friendly greetings" (above post), very unlikely to get them anywhere in any store in NYC. "Global" means "get lost, peasant." And they sneer regardless of the size of the tip (don't!). As for the SNL cadaver, after 50 years, I'd rather go to the Victoria and Albert Museum in London (same vibes; Victorian era ended circa 1901 and 30 Rock has the same vibes/"old man smell."). Finally, no one beats Jeremy's sense of humor. Bravo!
ok so this whole/hole thing has my teeth hurting... but THERE IS MORE, of course... one fun piece is that there's (or at least once was...20 y.o. info here) a training setup related to the WS HQ that I heard called KRISPY KREME U. - by numerous folks attending it, from all over the US and...even Saudi Arabia, maybe required attendance for new franchises!?... Not a few of these folks were staying at the ol Brookstown Inn when I was a regular there in some previous decade and... I definitely don't remember any donuts, KK or other, in the breakfast bar there, but a lotta KK -wear!
There is only one donut: It's Krispy Kreme, accompanied of course with a Coke. If you want a doughnut, buy that dry, choking cake thing with your coffee. :-)
IDK what KK's marketing strategy really is but they blew a huge opportunity not going after DD they way Lowes went after Home Depot. Closing many standalone KK stores may make short term economic sense, but the loss of a marketing venue (many faced high traffic roads) makes me ask what's next for KK?
Yet I can find no crullers at a KK store. They tell me (in Charlotte) that they may be in a grocery store. Why waste that preferential purchase on a week old bag?
Hard to believe they can sell that many doughnuts to keep afloat in that district! Hope you had a great time!
Always appreciate you finding the quirky sides of life and bringing humor to us during these times.
Now if Krispy Kreme would just bring back their original coffee blend. It was wonderful and is a patented blend, so you can't buy from the producers. You could purchase whole beans from the store and it had chocolate tones. They went all upscale and did away with it. 😱😬

Winston Salem TEACH is some DEI crap that the majority of us voted to end.
Actually a majority voted for someone else...

Dunkin' tossed in the doughnut towel when they started trying to push their coffee and take on Starbucks. Hillbilly Bagels will prevail.
BTW My NC publisher did a video of "Hot Now! An Ode to Krispy Kreme Doughnuts"
