The family of Merle Mills really enjoyed your article! It brought back memories of those days and how much he enjoyed going to the fairs meeting the people and bringing so much enjoyment to the fair-goers. Great investigative work!

Richard Petty did autograph a white ducks back. I can’t remember what year it was had to be in the early 90s. one of the radio stations had a contest to win a picnic with Richard Petty.

for every five Pepsi cans You turned in you got entry blank to win a picnic with Richard Petty. They were drawing from 4 locations 106 names I believe and I won a picnic with Richard Petty.

It was at the fairgrounds and there was a pond and there was a building that we went into to eat. But Richard Petty sat on the stage outside and signed autographs for everyone. Some man brought a white duck up from the pond and Richard Petty autographed that ducks back. I have pictures of him doing that, I also have a picture of the duck back down at the pond with Richard Petty‘s autograph on his back.

Now, if I ever see mention of Richard Petty signing a live duck, I can share this piece and your work will help make an odd anecdote into a legendary tale!! Well done!! Absolutely love your work.
