Last month, a gang of roaming canines presented a big problem in a small town. Weird? Not if you go back and read literally any newspaper from the early and mid 20th century.
When I was in junior high school in the early 1970's, we lived a mile or so from the Greensboro, NC city dump. There were a lot of feral cats that lived at the dump, as well as a pack of feral dogs that lived in the surrounding woods. I would hunt small game in those woods when the dump was closed and often saw the "wild dogs" in a pack of around twenty animals. I remember they were lead at that time by a big Saint Bernard, but they all looked like they were once someone's pet and were in all sizes and breeds. There was an old farmstead next to the dump that the city owned, and I think the dogs took shelter in the outbuildings. I remember checking out the buildings once and heard the "pack" coming. Even though I was armed, I ran for my life, and they finally gave up the chase. I never investigated the farmstead again. I think I remember hearing about animal control trapping and shooting the dogs not much later, due to them attacking livestock and people's pets.
Yeah, it's a bummer. I put a footnote in at the most depressing part encouraging people to read Tommy Tomlinson's "Dogland" as a palate cleanser but I accidentally deleted it!
Just how many chins did your grandmother have? I know plenty of people with double chins but not too many with Japanese chins (outside of Japanese people, of course) 😁
A *lot*. Because of the way they were bred, they couldn't bark. One time years ago I was visiting her in Florida and she let a dozen of them out of their crates at the same time and they all ran up and sniffled at me as loudly as they could. Hard to forget that noise.
I had to adjust to reading the word, bitch, in its true context while reading Tommy Tomlinson’s book, Dogland. It’s strange I never seem to have a problem if I need to call a human that name!🤣

I may be flying solo here but as a dog lover, this piece bummed me the hell out! The Talladega clip is always gold though

Col. Tobe Marshall didn't look *that* good in his uniform.
