Durham is the Arby's of NC. You think you're getting a great deal, but all youre left with is a bad aftertaste & loose stool.

Jeremy, I'm low-key envious of your talent and job. I enjoy your weekly excursions into NC culture. As a 24 year resident, originally from the Midwest, I find that I love the Carolinas. I live near Mocksville, the IGA that you are surprised to find still has okay produce and meats, despite being in the boondocks.

Rocky Mount is the Texas Roadhouse that you always drive by and wonder if it's still open and then you find out it closed in 2017.

As someone who grew up in Denver, CO and has passed through Denver, NC many times, I can attest that the latter is truly the King Sooper's of NC; low prices but terrible service

Didn't include Durham but here's one suggestion from Brian Hawkins: "Durham is (appropriately) Rise...success and a higher profile have made it less awesome than it used to be (but it's still pretty great)"

Oh wow, that is a perfect description of Durham. The metaphor plays out in that Rise used to be known for selling donuts and they basically switched to being a biscuit shop. Durham was known for selling cigarettes and now they sell people on the fact that they're cooler than the rest of NC. (gentrification)

Fayetteville as Church's is just a stone-cold assassination, of both the city and the franchise.
