Most of the votes challenged by Supreme Court candidate Jefferson Griffin weren't flagged when they were cast. So how would you actually match up the ballot with the voter? Aren't votes secret?
I wouldn't go that far about his personality. I don't know him! But I'd say that by every measure he's lost the 2024 election (after multiple recounts). On the election integrity side of things, this apparently was not an issue that was important enough to bring up in 2020, when he won his seat on the Court of Appeals by nearly 123,000 votes. I know that lawmaking is different than lawsuit-ing, but the fact that nobody's challenged voters in this way ought to invite some extra scrutiny.
I served 14 years as a precinct level election official in Durham (12) and Wake (2) counties. The information from my Carolina classmate Gerry Cohen and Patrick Gannon is correct. What the majority of voters on the list can do is compete a new voter registration form which does ask for your NC Driver's License and Social Security number then take it to their county board of elections office. As far as Griffin's challenge of Durham County voters I can attest from personal experience that its current elections director, Derek Bowers won't tolerate incorrect procedures.
Wow. I was looking for another fun or interesting post this morning. Oh it's interesting alright. My wife is on the list. I am shocked at how many folks are on the list especially from Wake County. Wonder if there is a correlation with party affiliation with this list of voters. My money says there is.
"Typically, there are very few, if any, cases of noncitizen registration or voting referred for prosecution statewide each year, which demonstrates how infrequent it is for noncitizens to register or vote."

I’ve enjoyed Jeremy’s articles and podcasts for years. Used to be cool stories about North Carolina. Lately he has decided to throw it all away and become political.
Political because he's bringing up issues that are a) interesting and b) seem like they'd benefit from a more public airing? I think it's fine to be political but partisan is not what any of us are looking for.
Correction: Griffin is not only an election loser he is a life loser. He has company in the comments.

Thank you! This is good work. It helped me understand more fully the crap Griffin is try to sling around.
I vote to remove Bobby and the two who liked his comment. We don't need that type of malevolence here or any where for that matter.

This is an important and well-written article. Thanks for writing it!

A sad day when North Carolina is playing the old hits (of voter disenfranchisement and overturning elections).
The real question is, how many of these voters are not US citizens and registered to vote when they got a driver's license?

"There is no comprehensive, accurate, or up-to-date database of U.S. citizens that election administrators could use for verification purposes. "

Now who’s being nitpicky?

Bob I reckon you might be dumb as bricks based off this comment.
Pathetic
Wow. Thanks Bobby. What a vile comment

When the right to vote is threatened, everyone should speak up.
Amen, Holly. And thanks for this reporting, Jeremy.
