Great work, as usual. I remember Sheriff Hege. I think he and the infamous sheriff in AZ were cut from the same cloth. Really enjoy your work, Jeremy.

You're wrong about the constitutional amendment changing the voting language. It's a preparation for removing birthright citizenship at a federal level. Now, if that should ever make it through as a change in federal law, NC has already removed any conflict. The "born or naturalized" language was more a more expansive definition. Granted, federal law would override state law, but it could be argued only for federal elections. Perhaps I'm being cynical, but that's how I saw that change.

I’ve heard that too. For NOW it has no effect (legally anyway) but if a lot of stuff changes then it’s possible that this opens the door to that.

Great post! But one small correction: North Carolina never seceded from the union. Lincoln argued that secession was not permitted by the Constitution, and that the states of the confederacy were rebelling, not seceding. There are still those who contend Lincoln was wrong; but his side did win the war over the point.
