I was COMPLETELY OBSESSED with LL Cool J when I was a teen. So much that most of the gifts I received from friends at my Sweet 16 were LL-themed. I love that the Charlotte Post mused about when he was going to host his first cookout. That so cultural, so Black American-coded, I absolutely it.
At the time, there was quite a bit of drama associated with that house and the celebrities who lived there. Those details would have made the article a much more interesting read. I should know, I’m the guy who bought the house from LL COOL J and subsequently sold it to Fantasia…
Carrot Top/Scott Thompson, moved to Clt b/c the Comedy Zone owner was a friend who helped him in his career. He's a good dude, and hung out at Jack Straws a bit.
Superb story. Great job! I knew about Fantasia and Carrot Top but not LL Cool J. Another guy you might look up is the comedian Rich Hall (Sniglets fame). He grew up here and lived here after he got famous.
Carrot Top lived in Davis Lake in Charlotte.

Even the Post didn’t get around to talking about LL until like a year later! Unless I missed something!

LL also had a place at Lake Norman. Normal guy, and you wouldn't know he was famous unless people came up to him asking for autographs.

Did Master P live in Charlotte when he was trying to make the Hornet’s roster?
Absolutely fantastic read, and the final line was just gold. I'll have to check that video out later today.
Everything I learn about LL Cool J, the more I appreciate his character.
