1 remember riding in the cab of my Dad's tractor trailer in 1949 headed to visit my grandmother in Fountain, NC and passing thru Como. Como had a combination post office, grocery store and Sinclair gas station. I was 6 years old and excited to see the country.
Wow, that was a 2-cup-of-coffee Rabbit Hole! But still no Tuxedo. (they are sorta proud, I think). And pickles were their own Rabbit Hole. Thanks for a good Friday start. Peace.
My mother lived briefly in Conetoe in the 30s after their home burned down in the long-vanished community of Contentnea. The creek is still there and you can put your boat in at Hookertown but the damp ground has absorbed the even the foundations of the 5-6 houses that once stood there.
Saddened that my favorite place in NC, Chalybeate Springs, didn't make the cut. (Chally-beat? Naw mon, Kah-LIB-ee-at)
How does Grabtown not get a shoutout?
I eagerly await any and all “you forgot (oddly-named town, looser” comments
I trust that someone mentioned Como, NC.

Brilliant article - I love the varied names in NC. Varnamtown, anyone?
I've had to pass by Horneytown on my way to Climax before.
That Carrboro video holds up.
