This is hilarious, and now I won’t be able to see those signs without laughing inwardly. That said, they’re better than billboards. Every road trip reminds me how refreshingly free of them we are in Raleigh.

Gosh I’ve noticed but never REALLY noticed all of the Johnson Lexus signs on I40. Now I will be searching them out as I drive from my home in Chapel Hill NC in my ……Johnson Lexus sedan.

Hey at least a few of those $ I paid might be used to pick up a few pieces of road trash.

I'm in Ukraine right now, and this story was the best state side, "who knew?" I've read in the five months I've been here.

Thank you for this! It really made me think and smile ("car commericals are stupid anyway!")

Just curious. Is this also a tax deduction for a business? If so, then an even more creative form of advertising. Wish more people would sponsor clean up. We often comment how much trash we see on our North Carolina roads. Rather than criticizing the signs, ask ourselves why so many needed. Unfortunate they are there. That said, I applaud any business willing to find positive community ways of promoting themselves.

Great article Jeremy. I have noticed the signs before, but figured it was a Wake County thing. Next time I head to Wilmington, I will be on the look out.

This brings me to my billboard related question. Have you ever noticed that the North Carolina Aquarium has billboards in the westbound direct of I-40 and the southbound lanes of I-85 around Greensboro? Seems counter-intuitive to be advertising to motorist that are heading AWAY from the coast. I wonder why that is the case.
