One of North Carolina's O.G. craft breweries abruptly closed this week. It's a sign of the times, but also showed that big things are still possible in small towns.
Wow, first WRQR-FM and now the Duck-Rabbit (it's a rabbit, btw). Huge blow for Farmville and beer lovers alike. Headed to H-T to see if anything's left!
A friend who lives in Eastern NC told me just today that Duck Rabbit closed recently. I appreciate your enlightening me as to how and why this came to pass, and in particular (as a Kings Quest/Space Quest kid of the 80s) loved the Sierra On-Line detour. Thank you for sharing this and your stories.
This is a great article! The Sierra Online took me right back to my nerd youth. Interestingly, I play in LearnedLeague and a recent One A Day topic of questions was themed on Sierra Online. Fills me with nostalgia.
I mourn the Weeping Radish every trip to Kitty Hawk . My family purchased in 1988, and we discovered it shortly after. From the excellent owner and waitstaff to just enjoying the beer.It was a pleasure regardless of where the location was. I cannot in good conscience Support the new owner after promises made and undelevered. Now waiting for the bulldozers to show up in Grandy
Long ago, on a trip to the coast, my husband and I stopped for dinner at the Weeping Radish. I don't drink, but I had to buy a few bottles for friends back home. And the meal we had there was excellent!
What a great post! And that Coarsegold story is awesome. Your parents were cool.
They still are!

Wasn't there a Weeping Radish in Durham in the late '80s, too? (maybe also Raleigh)
I recall my Dad buying a mini-keg of German beer for a party at our house. Also, they hosted standup, I think.
