I’m sitting on the dining room floor with my big lab/shepherd mix Ruffin on what will probably (if I’m brave enough) be his last day with us. This column captures everything I’m feeling and expecting to feel for weeks to come. Thank you Jeremy.
Jeremy, I am so sorry to hear about Lucy. I remember Lucy well when you lived on Kitley. Her and our Mollie got along great! She was a sweet, wonderful dog. I know you and the family will miss her. Our pointer Mollie is now 11 and showing some signs of old age but still active. Nancy and I do not have children but Mollie has brought extra joy and happiness and love to our lives particularly during this pandemic and since our retirement. I do not look forward to that day but will always be forever grateful, as I know you are, for her.
Hey Richard, it's really good to hear from you. Lucy loved being around other dogs in our famiy, but she always seemed happiest, and fastest, when she played with Mollie. We went back and watched some videos of the two of them flying around Beth's backyard, and we were really happy that she had her, and you, in her life, even if it was a long time ago now. We miss you all on Kitley, and I hope you all are doing well.
Hey Jeremy. I meant to tell you that your story was beautifully written as are all your postings but this really was so spot on! Again, i am so sorry about Lucy.
Jeremy, so sorry about Lucy. I feel and have felt everything you’ve written, I just couldn’t express it as well as you have. My sweet dog Ursa died in April. There are so many holes still and always will be. But the holes are small compared to the joy of the time spent with her.
Thank you Bev. I'm really sorry to hear about Ursa, but I hope your thoughts of her now bring you more joy as time goes on. That's what I hoping for with Lucy.
Powerful, palpable and profound. Thank you for sharing - I related to every word for all the pet love I've been privileged to in my life. Now I have to go redo my makeup but it was worth evey tear. What a beautiful tribute. So so sorry for your loss.
I'm so sorry for your loss of Lucy. She was so loved and she knew you loved her. You will forever have wonderful memories of her. Lucy will be forever in your heart. Dogs always leave paw prints on our hearts when they are no longer with us!
Jeremy, even though I already knew the story before I read it you broke my heart. It was helpful also to read about anxiety and how it effects so many in many different ways
Thanks Joanna. Lucy didn't get us through the pandemic... our whole family did it together. But she was always there in the moments when we needed her, and for that we're all grateful.
I felt a little better about how completely besotted I am with our dog a few years ago when we were lucky to go to Mexico City. We went to Frida Kahlo's house where, there, on her bureau, was a clay vessel in the shape of a curled up pup with her beloved dog's ashes in it. I anticipate that'll be me in all too short a time. >sob< In the meantime, I'll give Marconi, the wireless terrier, an extra scratch this evening.
Oh, Jeremy, I am so so sorry for your and your family's loss. What a beautiful tribute to your good girl, Lucy. My husband and I have been talking about this very thing as our pets have begun aging. How will we ever survive losing them. Your touching words will stay with us and, I'm sure, help when the time comes. Thank you for sharing your sweet Lucy with us.
This is the sweetest, saddest article I’ve ever read. “ To bring a dog home with you is to bring yourself a delayed appointment with grief“…. We have three senior dogs…haven’t been down this path yet…I am truly sorry for your loss. Great piece of writing. 🌈❤️LUCY

Crying my guts out reading. Thank you for sharing

Thank you for thinking of us

Animals reach a part of our hearts where humans never go. You have found that part of your heart, and Lucy will be there forever.
Thank you. I really appreciate you saying that, and for thinking about us, and Lucy.

Don't discount your relationship with the dog.

Thanks Rose. I hope Marconi lives a long, good life, and I appreciate you thinking about us, and Lucy.
So sorry to hear about Lucy. Hugs to you and the family.
Thank you, Mike.
