Strates Shows and its carnival rode the rails to North Carolina for more than 70 years, prompting smiles, tributes, and warnings about stripper-assisting birds. So, what happened to its trains?
When I was 14 I went to the fair with my sweetheart. Holding hands as we walked around the fairgrounds, checking out the art exhibits and livestock competition, strolling the Strates midway, and riding back home after dark in the backseat of her parents’ Cadillac, what memories!
So many times we'd watch the Strates (and Ringling, BITD) train unload across from the State Fairgrounds and imagine what life was like in the coach cars before they went away. A carny needed to be rough and ready for anything! Hope to see it again one day!

Holy crap, the top spin! Reason enough to cheer for the train!
