What's puzzling you is the nature of his game.

I bought Bruce Springsteen a beer at the (divey but great music even by that town's high standards) Green Parrot in Key West in 2019. It was only when I heard his voice as he ordered a bottle of Yuengling at the bar that I was certain who it was and told the bartender, "that's on me." "You don't have to do that," he said, and I replied, "Yes, I do. You music got me through the worst times of my life. It was the exclamation point on the best times of my life. On at least one occasion, your music got me laid. For that alone, I owe you a beer." His wife, Patti Scialfa had come over and heard the last of that, laughed and said, "Honey, let him buy you a beer."

The Stones are fairly well known for exploring the towns they're playing in and they're surprisingly adept at being anonymous. A few years ago in Buffalo a bunch of pictures popped up showing Mick and Charlie doing the Frank Loyd Wright tour with a group of people who had no idea who they were.

A bouncer at a bar in Wilmington, NC once refused two people entry because they didn't have valid US Driver's licenses...

Colin Firth and Emily Blunt. Bouncer didn't know who they were. My friend, the owner, was pretty pissed.

Still one of my favorite stories.

Why on earth do you need US ID to go into a US bar? Particularly if you're over 21 or have your own ID?

They will generally accept a passport, but not always. Some Americans have never even seen a passport before. I know this from personal experience.

Yes, I know, but more Americans have passports than there are peeps in Britain. Or pretty close.

Van Morrison and his band used to pose as a Van Morrison cover band at a dive in Sausalito. It was the unwritten rule that no one approached them unless it was to buy them drinks!

Here's something to consider. He wasn't there alone, someone else had to take that picture. So there's a chance he didn't stand at the bar to order his own drink, and didn't pay with a card simply because someone else probably paid. There's a lot less of a chance for people to recognize him that way.

I saw The Band play at a club in NYC in the mid-80s (turned out to be Richie Manuels's last show). We were partying pretty hard when one of my friends swore he saw Jagger bounce by us on his way to a private room. We mocked my buddy mercilessly, and suggested he lay off the sauce and other things for a bit. A couple of days later, the Village Voice reported the Jagger was indeed at the show. Oh well, at least one of us saw him.

He did the same thing here in Costa Rica a while ago. Came to local beach bar, sat with a friend having beers and nobody bothered them. But there are pictures taken by locals with phones.

Mick posted a pic of himself at the St. Louis Arch the day before the Stones kicked off the current tour. Looks like he wore the same clothes as at the Beaver. It was daytime. There are a few people around and yet no one seems to recognize him. So I think I see a pattern. Mick will go to an iconic spot at each of venue locations and snap a pic the day before the show. The quest has begun. Where will Mick show up next??
