Thirty years ago, Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones starred a legendary action movie. Three decades later, a lot of pieces from the film are still out there in the mountains, but for how much longer?
If you watch the movie closely, when Harrison Ford breaks out of the van and runs to the highway, there’s a sign that says the mileage to Murphy. I only know that because I’m from Murphy and it made me laugh.
The Last of The Mohicans was also filmed up in these mountains. The waterfall where they walk under the falls is near Franklin-Bridal Veil Falls. Other scenes were filmed at Chimney Rock State Park’s Hickory Nut Falls.
Does anyone know where the "we got a gopher" tunnel is located? I found another page that said it was on the Blue Ridge Parkway, but I Google-surfed all the tunnels I could find and didn't see it. It has a curb on one side, and dangling electric lights to distinguish it. Thanks!
Great read, thanks. That’s one of the movies that I always stop on when it shows up flipping channels. It is indeed a good view of the movie wreckage from the Great Smoky Mtn Railway.

Yeah, there were a lot more than just those two places. I'd missed the detail about Murphy!
And the Bass Pond bridge at Biltmore.

Found it - Sherrill Cove Tunnel, near Cherokee, NC. Kimble is shown passing mile marker 466 on the Blue Ridge Parkway! :)
Just visited the dam and Tail of the Dragon a few weeks ago. Beautiful part of the state!
